It’s worth noting that while the Security Explorations project focused on Kigen products, eUICC/eSIM chips from several other vendors may be vulnerable to similar attacks as the underlying issue is related to a series of vulnerabilities found in Oracle’s Java Card technology.

The Java Card flaws were disclosed by Security Explorations in 2019, but Oracle and SIM card manufacturers using the technology downplayed their potential impact at the time.

In order to conduct an attack, the attacker needs temporary physical access to the device with the targeted eSIM. The goal is to extract a key that allows the installation of a malicious Java Card application.

Okay, I’ll bite. How would that work? My bank account is just a string of nunbers. It doesnt have a way to tell me how much I didnt spend on 3 years of hypothetical lunches. I buy all my groceries for our meals all at once, not through separate accounts for breakfast, “what would have been lunch,” and supper.

A couple of years ago, I was working way too much and I lost the habit of eating lunch. It turns out I don’t miss it that much. I just dont eat a meal, sometimes maybe a handful of chickpeas or something if I feel like I need the energy. I lost about 45 lbs through this somewhat accidental intermittent fasting.

I have to wonder how much money I have saved by skipping one meal a day for years.
