Generally getting people to guarantee for others consistently has been the biggest struggle on fediseer >_<

Met a guy at the local boardgame event. Got to talking about how he was always driven out of gaming groups and nobody invites him anymore and a lot more of “oh woe is me” stuff. I recognized a bit of my younger self in him and how used the same schtick to get sympathy and social interaction before I learned how toxic this behaviour is. I wanted to try and mentor him out of this self-defeating behaviour so I invited him to my place.

When he came in treated my family like a complete asshole. Couldn’t make them suffer for one dude.

This is completely unsurprising tbh. A lot of the old mods were enthusiasts who grew a community from scratch due to their love for the subject. In the reddit API shutdown, a lot of those mods left in disgust, or were replaced by the reddit admins, or were driven off by the leftover toxic userbase calling them “entitled jannies” or whatever. A lot of the mods who took over their place were just power-hungry users who were chomping at the bit to get the chance to run a big community as their personal fiefdom because they were too toxic to grow one themselves.

This is the inevitable culmination of these events.

You mean an exploit payload embedded in an image, and pwning a system parsing that image through python PIL? While there’s never a 100% chance of anything, you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than this coming to pass and at that point you’re at more security risk at using the internet altogether.

You realize however that government regulation also stifle progressive radicalism? I don’t see how it’s a privacy risk since you’re not exposing your IP or anything. Likewise the images are already uploaded to your servers, so there’s no extra privacy risk for the uploader.

It’s not naivety. I try to be charitable as a matter of course because I’ve been personally burnt too many times by people being uncharitable towards me and my ND expressions. It’s a learned behaviour I have, to make sure I don’t attack someone for a mere misunderstanding. Of course even I have my limits.

Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria

They seem to have burnt a lot of their regulars with this one. I read two heart wrenching posts from ND people in their comms who were respectively devastated for being banned frivolously, or being stressed about potentially being banned frivolously. And I totally understand it as RSD is a common symptom and most of us are traumatized for being constantly excluded. It’s part of the reason why I try to be careful with the banhammer because I know how much it affects ND people.

You can actually run it in async model without pictrs safety and just have it scan your newly uploaded images directly from storage. It just doesn’t prevent upload this way, just deletes them.
