Ha yes, I forgot about the local music — me too.

I started using Twitter mostly to follow journalists and scientists, as you say. There are actually quite a few of them on Mastodon, so it scratches that itch for me. I haven’t logged in to Twitter for about a year and a half now. I find Reddit is the harder one to quit, simply because Lemmy hasn’t quite reached that critical mass. I still use both every day. I suppose Twitter was also easier to quit because it’s mostly Nazis now.

Chinese is full of beautiful compound words like this. “You’re welcome” for example (bukeqi, 不客气) is “not guest air”. Happy (gaoxing, 高兴) is “high mood”, or cheerful (kaixin, 开心) is “open heart”.

I’m in Canada and use Linux full-time without any such problems whatsoever. On rare occasions I use Edge instead of Firefox, and that’s it.

The vast majority of people whining about the current political landscape have done absolutely nothing IRL to remedy this (tangibly supporting good candidates, running for office themselves, etc.)

Remember that this was YOUR family’s company. Family businesses writ large definitely don’t have a good reputation as far as their non-relative workers are concerned. At least with a megacorporation you can expect some guardrails that will limit their abuses.

This does seem like a Tobi ideological thing, doesn’t it? Ugh.

I wonder what’s in it for Shopify. This seems like an odd thing for them to sponsor, or a very expensive FU to Google.
