My experience with purity tests is that they typically wielded from a place of privilege, often in such a way as to defend themselves from criticism. I’ve seen purity tests used to dismiss sexual assault and ignore the lived experiences of marginalized communities.

Reality doesn’t fit neatly into boxes like the people who wield purity tests seem to want. Sometimes people don’t have the same opportunities to learn and understand. Sometimes you have to work with people who support policies that would see you dead. Not only does perfect not exist, the pursuit of it is one of the biggest barriers to achieving actual meaningful progress.

Green sauces are made with tomatillos/green peppers/etc. and has a more vegetal flavor, while red sauces are made with tomatoes/red peppers/etc. andtastes like tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and the like. Spice level is irrelevant. Put more simply, the green sauces taste “green” and the red sauces taste “red”; and are better on different things. The good ones are hot as hell regardless of color.

I believe this is a new deconvolution image stacking algorithm that can easily be run in hardware. It should work with any observatory. The math is far enough above my head that I can’t be sure though.

It would be cool if this makes it into software that people could use at home. I would love to see what amateur astrophotographers could to with it.

I believe Butler was pulling from performative language and not trying to imply that gender is a conscious act or performance in of itself. It is more along the lines of what society perceives as gender is the result of actions, culture, perceptions, and feelings. Additionally, something being a social construct does not mean that it isn’t real or inpactful, money is a social construct after all.

Actions can convey meaning beyond what they imply in isolation. Just as a judge pronouncing a verdict in a trial carries different meaning and impact than a drunk dude at the bar saying the same words, a cis man dressing in women’s clothes is different than a trans woman doing the same.

I struggled with the purity tests, hatred, and general bad takes under the banner of feminism for years (I’ve unfortunately had personal experience with people who makevstraw feminists look like amatures). This probably added years to the time it took for me to come out to myself aa trans, and it wasn’t until I came to the understanding that “feminism” is more accurately thought as a collection of related ideologies/philosophies, or “feminisms”, that I became comfortable considering myself a feminist.

Essentialism is something that has strong roots in many feminisms, including, sometimes especially, ones that claim to be gender abolitionist and the like. One would think that trans people would be sought after for their perspectives from both sides of the fence, but in my experience that is rarely the case. By their very existence, trans people make the nice neat boxes used in the us vs them arguments fall apart. I think this is why trans women are often expected to toe the party line if they want to be accepted as women and trans men are so often either infantalized or treated as defectors to the enemy.

Gender also takes quite a bit of effort to understand, and cis people are far more often than not unwilling to put the effort in that understanding would require. Especially since it would require understanding and even empathy for the enemy.

I think gender is a social construct in so much as it loses all meaning without a concept of social interaction, but just like money or class can have a huge impact on one’s life. It is also rooted in one’s core sense of self and not a choice.

People in power will use whatever is available to oppress, but it doesn’t mean that those things were invented for that purpose.

These days we have been going by the rule:

• If you are here you have always been here
• If you are not here you have never existed

The people I play with are far too inconsistent and we have to take what we can get. Complicating things too much is just another barrier that we don’t need. We do have a decent sized group with a couple of reliable players, so this is probably easier to do with this group than with a smaller one.

Note: We are all pushing 50 and are pretty busy with work and family, which is a big contribution to the flakiness.

Vivaldi is the spiritual successor to the version of Opera that ran on the Presto engine, including some of the key people from back then. It has always run on Chromium with all of the baggage that comes with that. Manifest 3 and difficulty blicking autoplay videos without an extension for example.

It is possible that OP needs Chromium for some reason like sites restricting access to other browsers either intentionally, or due to incompetence. I’ve personally never been able to get any Firefox derivative to have anywhere close to as good of a user experience as out of the box Vivaldi despite my trying, though I can’t speak to Brave’s UX.

I might have to give Waterfox a try, though. Is there any word on how up to date they are with security updates, since derivative browsers tend to lack the resources to not lag behind?

Hormones are active in the brain and if you are low it can cause mood problems. Most sources I’ve seen show a 4-5 day half-life for estrodial valerate. This can leave you pretty low before 7 days are up if you are on weekly injections. There are two ways that people typically work around this:

• Increasing the dosage high enough that you don’t dip too low. This unfortunately also means that your peak levels may get higher than your Dr is comfortable with.
• Splitting the dose in half and injecting two times a week instead of one. This will significantly smooth out the curve, but have the downside of requiring twice the injections.

I guess what I am saying is that there are options if the dosing schedule you start off with causes you problems that you can work through with your Dr. Also, the 5mg I used for the simulation was a semi random number and not a recommended dose.

30 grams is a round number somewhere in the ballpark of a musket ball. I am also uncertain as to how you ended up with 19.2 km/s.

To the best of my recollection the energy should be conserved according to the formula: energy = mass * velocity squared

Mass is in kg and velocity is in m/s

So solving for v would give us around 2.3 km/s for a 0.5 g projectile. At that speed, the projectile would most likely detonate immedeately due to air resistance rendering it problematic as a firearm.

Many of the things we take for granted as obvious these days were anything but until recently. Take bolt cutters for example. The compound lever that let’s them function so well seems like something that would have been around for centuries, but in reality wasn’t something that was widely used/understood until the 1890s when they were marketed as a wonder tool.

On the other hand, this is a game and should be fun regardless of how anachronistic it is at times. At least as long as the witch/duck proportionality is maintained. There has to be at least some realism.

I was assuming that the total energy would be maintained (In this case 1350 joules) and thus the damage should be the same if weren’t spread out. It has been 20+ years since I has to do any of that math so I could be wrong about any of that. And since the only paper that was handy happened to be an envelope I guess it was technically back of the envelope math. :)

I imagine that the momentum would be conserved. So if the rifle normally shot a 30 gram ball at 300 meters per second, it would shoot a 5 kilogram ball at around 23 meters per second.

• The larger size and lower speed of the cannon ball would likely reduce the range.
• The larger size of the projectile would spread out the impact causing reduced damage.
• The ballistics would be significantly different making it far harder to hit with.

This is how I would do it in my game:

• Reduce the damage from 1d12 to 1d10
• Change piercing type to bludgeoning
• Reduce range from 40/120 to something like 20/60
• Add knockback of 5 ft to medium targets or 10 for small

The really neat thing would be shooting non standard rounds that wouldn’t be possible from a musket like incendiary or smoke rounds.

The top is the percentage of people while the bottom is the total incidence. This is an apples and oranges comparison. In this case the bottom map is functionally a population map as others have pointed out. Most stats are best in “#/thousand people” or equivalent, but should always in the same unit if compared.

I’m not op, but these are some things that I appriciate about Vivaldi:

• Mouse gestures that work anywhere in the window with different options based on what I start the gesture on (eg. Right clicking on a link and dragging down opens the link in a new foreground tab {dragging down then up opens it in the background} but doing so on empty space opens a new tab)
• A scrollable side bar for tabs instead of the horizontal one that is standard (not in addition to or requiring hacky workarounds)
• The ability to minimize tabs or send them to the bottom of the cycle order (this needs to be able to be done with mouse gestures)
• The ability to easily highlight parts of a link so that I can copy part of the text (Vivaldi highlights with a click and drag and drags the link on a click, hold and drag; Firefox doesn’t appear to do either)
• Not having to worry about third party extensions security issues or having this core functionality stop working because the extension maintainer has to update it for the new browser version.
• The fact that it just works with minimal configuration

Unfortunately I am looking for alternatives to Vivaldi since Google has decided to kill quality web browsing on Chromium browsers. Much of the web is virtually unusable to me without a tool like ublock quieting things down to work past my sensory processing issues. At times it is hard to think that the majority of web devs have anything but distain for disabled people.

I do use Fennic on Android (with ublock and darkreader) because Mozilla decided to block access to about:config in the mobile version and I have yet to find another way to always force pages to load the desktop version. (Mobile versions of sites disable most of the built in accessibility options like the ability to zoom)

The settings I set in fennic if anyone is curious:

• browser.viewport.defaultZoom (set a sane default zoom)
• browser.viewport desktopWidth (say that the screen is large enough to not trigger CSS mobille layouts)
• general.useragent.override (work around browser sniffing; I’ve yet to find an extension that actually works for this)

I guess I must be out of the loop. What us up with ground news?
