Dat hangt denk ik af van het thema. Op asiel misschien rechtser, maar op sociaal gebied?

adeoxymus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you were in my position, would you settle in the US or move somewhere else?0·2 months agoHas she lived outside the country before? Do you want to go somewhere else with her? If she wants to stay close to family why not try Canada? It’s close by, similar climate and time zone and culturally not that different from the north east.
adeoxymus@lemmy.worldto Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•Measuring the latency of 574k servers around the world from my lemmy serverEnglish0·2 months agoAlright thanks! so it means you’re showing RTT theoretical/RTT actual? That makes sense!
adeoxymus@lemmy.worldto Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•Measuring the latency of 574k servers around the world from my lemmy serverEnglish0·2 months agoSuper cool plot! Few questions, I was trying to read the scale bar. It says RTT/(1-(2*distance/c)). I guess that’s a typo? otherwise I’m not sure what it would mean.
Then the scaling goes up to 10, did you multiply by 10 or did you inverse the values? (Inverting would mean higher values = lower connectivity? which I guess is possible in Europe if we have to consider the routing ?).
Also it’s very interesting how uniform the whole American continent is.

Edit: I also love the visualizations, didn’t make that clear in first reply 🫣
adeoxymus@lemmy.worldto Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•Measuring the latency of 574k servers around the world from my lemmy serverEnglish0·2 months agoCould you calculate shortest distance to each point (using for example haversine formula) and then divide each time you got by 2*distance/c to get some sort of normalized score for connectivity? Anything closely approaching 1 would be the optimal connectivity to that destination.
Edit: c would be speed of light

adeoxymus@lemmy.worldto Canada@lemmy.ca•The perils of per capita GDP: No, Canada is not poorer than Alabama0·3 months agoThis was an interesting remark, I never thought of that
There are an estimated 11 million people there who contribute to the numerator (GDP) but are not counted in the denominator (population).
adeoxymus@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•New German coalition to abolish 3-year citizenship pathEnglish2311·4 months agoI don’t think German citizenship is why Americans would want to move to Germany.
Mostly agree, but;
I think is more their engineering expertise than cheap manufacturing. Cheap manufacturing can be easily moved to other countries as is already happening in India and Vietnam among others. However China has big expertise in high tech/large scale manufacturing in many areas like electronics, batteries, EV’s,… that doesn’t move easily.
However for those engineering domains China also strongly relies on other countries. In our world you can’t do everything alone.
They haven’t fought a war in 4 decades though.
