Not an American, but have spent a lot of time there. They have two right wing liberal parties, and a political system that actively resists any changes to that setup. As a result, they think that those are the two political extremes, and everything between them is centrist. Anyone outside of that is an extremist and not worthy of consideration. So when you criticise their party of choice, you obviously must be on the “other” side of the political spectrum, which to them is the other US political party.

They just don’t know any better, it’s outside of their realm of experience.

I’d not been following the war that closely until the Kursk invasion. I strongly believed it to be the beginning of the end. It makes absolutely zero strategic sense. Zelensky himself has waffled on what the point of it is. At this point it seems to be just a terrorist attack/PR stunt aimed at harming Russian civilians. That’s not really a good use of your best troops if you want to win a war. As we can see with the collapse of the Ukrainian fronts, which Ukraine is still not doing much about. This just isn’t sustainable.

It matters to Canada because the US told them to care. I have absolutely no clue about the US. Presumably they spent a lot of money getting those judges appointed and don’t want to lose their investments?

For anyone else out of the loop: From what I gather, Mexico is currently trying to make it so that judges are elected, rather than appointed. Canada and the US are fussing about this and threating trade sanctions, claiming that electing judges will somehow harm Mexico’s democracy (as you might expect, the reasons I found were a bunch of FUD without much substance). Mexico wants them to mind their own fucking business.

If you only play one JRPG in your life, make it Chrono Trigger.

If you do, don’t judge the franchise based on the first game. Silent Hill 2 is a very different game.

It was decent when it was released. It had some great ideas that were only really realised in the second game. I think playing through it these days would be a bit of a slog and I’m not sure I would recommend it for a modern audience. I might suggest starting with 2, and if you need to play more, then play the first and third games (in that order). Everything after can be safely skipped.

Your tastes are a little different than mine. It’s rare for me to play a CRPG. But on your current game list, Silent Hill 2 stood out to me. There’s a reason that the game is universally loved. I’m kind of waiting for the remake to do another playthrough, but it’s honestly a pretty short game. I might also suggest giving the PC version a go. Silent Hill Enhanced Edition is reportedly extremely good, although I haven’t played it myself.

I usually coordinate with my friends through SMS (or WhatsApp for my European friends). I had a Facebook account for some family members who are like that, but when I changed my name, I just kind of abandoned it. I’ve never had an Instagram account, and I only ever signed up for Twitter in order to enter a couple of contests. I never actually used it, and I’m not sure I even remember the password. I do have some presence on Discord, which I find distasteful, but not nearly so much as Facebook or Instagram. But again, it’s primarily to keep in contact with people I know who are part of that culture. I don’t really use it otherwise.

Canadian Bacon is a really dumb movie that I absolutely love. This exact trope comes up in it, and it never fails to get a chuckle from me. I like to think that the movie was at least partially responsible for ending it.

I also suffer from anxiety, and I do a lot of the same behaviours as you, including a minimal digital footprint. I have nothing useful to offer you though, aside from some comradeship. I know well how insidious anxiety is, and I do my best to avoid it creeping into my head. This means a limit on digital interactions.

I guess the difference though that I’m old enough that having my life be online is not an expectation (although I have been questioned about it in the past, it’s not uncommon for my age or field of work). So I doubt I have the digital pressure that you do. That has to suck. I’m sorry.
