Plasma Bigscreen just got some love. Maybe more eyes on the project will help get the ball rolling.

Undearius@lemmy.cato CanadaPolitics@lemmy.ca•Advance voting begins in Battle-River Crowfoot federal byelection0·2 months agoIn this byelection, it’s not just marking an x. Voters must hand write the name of their preferred candidate in a blank space.
“Their vote will be counted, even if they misspell the candidate’s name,” said agency spokesperson Matthew McKenna.
It would be incredible if there was a candidate with a name spelt similar to Pierre Poilievre.
Undearius@lemmy.cato Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does the fediverse really have a civility problem and what can we do about it?English0·2 months agoI do like the idea of leaving the curation of content in the hands of the user.
I think the mentality should be more common, and the tools should make it easy, to filter out content the same way it’s easy and common to follow a community/topic that adds to your feed.
Almost all social platforms have a method at the forefront to “see more content like this” but a lot don’t have “see less of this”, and if they do, it’s a buried setting.
It’d be really interesting for mods and admins to get a list of users’ exclude list, either of post keywords or user blocks, to see trends and stats on the content that people don’t want to see.

Thank you! I have been trying to remember the name of “that other” link aggregator since I first heard about it two years ago.
I kept thinking about it and getting it confused with Substacks.
Undearius@lemmy.cato Linux@programming.dev•Liberux Nexx GNU/Linux smartphone starts crowdfunding!English9·4 months agoYeah, this thing has comparable specs to my desktop computer with the price to match. When comparing to the PinePhone, this has 10x the RAM and 16x the storage.
In a time when so much stuff is unaffordable, maybe building an incredibly beefy phone as a startup doesn’t seem like the best idea.

Water has a lot more drag than air, so the more the boat is out of the water, the faster it can go.

Undearius@lemmy.cato Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Jellyfin for Xbox 0.9.0 releasedEnglish0·5 months agoThis is great for the cat-and-mouse situation.
I know a lot of people use Plex because of the number of apps on various platforms. The renewed life in these apps will be at least one less reason for people holding off on Jellyfin.
Undearius@lemmy.cato Firefox@lemmy.ml•Firefox 137 Released with Address Bar Revamp & Tab GroupsEnglish0·6 months agoHonestly, this is just the way it should be. Searching is fundamentally different than trying to access a website.
I love trying to search for something like “node.js” but can’t because it thinks it’s a website…
I think I know where in the code this could be happening for the web UI.
I’m not one of the devs but I’ll look into this a bit, I’ll update this comment when I get more info.
Starting from 1 year being 365 days
1 month would be the equivalent of 3.65 days
1 day would be 52.5 minutes
1 hour would be 31.5 seconds
1 minute would be 0.3 seconds
1 second would be 3 milliseconds
1 millisecond would be 3 nanoseconds
Undearius@lemmy.cato Fediverse@lemmy.world•Dumb question but do "likes" on #Mastodon automatically create up-votes on a #Lemmy post? I want to get a good grasp on the #Fediverse.English0·6 months agoIn hindsight, I wrote that line after seeing some code on Github that I thought was for ActivityPub, but when I went back to it later I realised it was for Mastodon.
Undearius@lemmy.cato Fediverse@lemmy.world•Dumb question but do "likes" on #Mastodon automatically create up-votes on a #Lemmy post? I want to get a good grasp on the #Fediverse.English0·6 months agoIt’s a bit confusing because each action on the Fediverse uses the same universal language, but each service translates that language into their own specific rolls for their service.
Lemmy upvotes use “Like” which is common language in ActivityPub but down votes use “Dislike” which is not used in the ActivityPub language. It’s up to the other services how they interpret that. Mastodon favourites use “Like” but it has nothing for “Dislike”. Mastodon boost uses “Announce” which is what Lemmy uses for posts and comments to a community.
From the Lemmy ActivityPub documentation
An upvote for a post or comment send an ActivityPub Like action
Users can send posts or comments to a community which the community forwards to its followers in the form of Announce.
From the Mastodon ActivityPub Documentation
ActivityPub Likes are transformed into a Favourite.
ActivityPub Announce are transformed into a boost on a status

A build hasn’t been released on GitHub for awhile, but there is an active branch and a more recent build on the telegram/matrix chat. The 0.9.3 version has worked well enough for me.
I haven’t used the features but in the Drawer section of the settings, there is “Categorise Apps” and “Second tab for Work apps”.
I do wish that Nova was open source, that’s basically the only reason I switched.
