Thankfully taxi services have finally gotten off their ass and most large cities have a taxi app. I used to fucking hate taxis because I never carried cash and the driver would get all huffy when I wanted to use card despite clearly having a card machine. I know most of it was they prefer cash to skirt taxes and also avoid the card fee (which they could add to the charge) but sorry, not sorry.

Uber came along and card was the default and you knew how much the ride would be before you even called them. No more guessing how much it would cost and having to pay attention to make sure the driver isn’t taking a scenic route to drive up the meter.

That is far on the norm these days. Many AirBnBs add on a ton of fees like a massive cleaning fee but still require you to clean up so the cost comes out to be more than a hotel and you still have to clean up and there are a ton of house rules. It has only been recently that AirBnB gave you the option of seeing the extra fees while searching but it’s still not the default option. Their customer service kind of sucks too. I stayed in a place in LA that had sewage backing up into the sinks and the place itself was pretty gross. They offered a slight discount on the night we stayed and allowed us to cancel the second night. A hotel would have probably comped us a night and given us a decent room.

There are still diamonds in the rough though which are generally people who genuinely have a mother in law unit or room spare and they live in the rest of the place. Most of them are done by corporations though who are simply looking for lower taxation.

Some rich asshole named Stuart Sloan, owner of University Village, tried low key getting rid of our nude beach here in Seattle. He talked directly with the mayor to get a children’s park right next to the beach and offered to pay for it which would likely mean police would crack down on nudity there. Thankfully the community gathered together to tell him to fuck off.

Went to one while in Spain. The spectrum was roughly the same as you would see at any beach. There were no creepers hanging around or anyone who was judgy.

If you have a basement, stay in it. When it was 108°F here in Seattle the other year, it was in the mid to high 70s in my basement office. If you do not have a basement, am evaporative cooking method can cool you a bit of you are in a dry climate. You could also hit up a pool or grocery store or movie theater. All those will help you cool off.

Check Craigslist for a portable AC unit. I was able to snag a free dual hose portable AC unit a month ago. The hotter it is though, the higher the prices are on Craigslist.

Not me but someone who did it in our yard back when I was a wee lad: a gun. Don’t worry. Someone did not drop their gun willy nilly in our lawn, at least not recently. The thing was a very rusty 80-year old revolver. He also found a decent amount of tax tokens.

Digging in my current yard has not resulted in anything as fun: 150 beer bottles, an animal skull (still not sure what species), and a wine bunch of oyster shells.

I met my wife on Tinder years ago before there was a premium version. I also used OkCupid. Both were bought by Match which ruined them. Badoo has always been filled with scammer from what I remember.

From what I have heard, dating apps are way worse nowadays. That sucks for lots of people who are shit picking people up in person. There are also fewer third places where it is obvious that single people are open to being social rather than getting annoyed that they are being approached.

A better alternative might be to find a hobby group and try to meet people there.

Just make sure you are not planting Asclepias curassavica or tropical milkweed (unless you are in the tropics). That grows year round and monarch butterflies will lay their eggs in it and not migrate south for the winter. That leads to dead monarch butterflies and dead eggs.
