Python Crash Course by Eric Matthes is a supremely good book to start with for an absolute beginner, and I would recommend it over Automate the boring stuff (that would be a great followup though!).
It assumes absolutely no prior knowledge, explains concepts extremely clearly, never presents too much to overwhelm and frustrate beginners, and includes a good range of projects that should interest any perspective programmer.
You’re welcome! :D
Trump, picking a Fox news host to run the military
“How could this be any worse?”
That motherfucker: takes off shirt
Narrator: “It got worse.”
I think XMPP would be the most appropriate tech for us to adopt, since it’s easily self-hostable, has great mobile apps, is federated, and doesn’t require an always connected bot to record chat history to know what was said while you were away. It’s functionally an improved IRC.
I looked into them a while ago, and from what I can find, they seem to be legit in that they use the profits for tree planting.
Reminder to sign Ross Scott’s StopKillingGames EU Citizens Intitiative (which carries legal weight if it reaches 1 million) if you’re an EU Citizen! Ubisoft killing The Crew is what kicked the whole thing off.

How that makes me feel:
To someone politically literate, that much is clear as day.
For the average person, they are easily tricked by false promises that the right will do the opposite. :(
Neoliberalism utterly failing to staunch the ransacking of the working class due to capitalism
”Why is the right gaining momentum???"

I’m not a mastodon user, so there’s likely more than that instance.
Good time to consider abandoning electorialism altogether and give Anarchism a chance. Create a new world in the shell of the old with worker owned cooperatives, cooperative energy, cooperative housing, mutual aid becoming a core tenet of society, and solving local problems with direct action .
Society with decentralized power and the elimination of profit motive would limit corruption heavily, and should be a sustainable long term way of being, and allow us to effectively fight climate change.
The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin is a nice exploration of how that sort of society could be. But we can also look to how the CNT structured society during the Spanish civil war to see it put into real practice.
I personally always enjoy Meta update posts on other instances to see what they’re up to, how they handled a particular problem, or offer help if they need it, and welcome the same on the meta posts on my own community from non-members.
But that’s just me.
First and foremost: at this juncture, I would implore everyone to keep OPSEC firmly in mind, and to take preemptive precautions.
Use a phone with Graphene OS, and use encrypted communication (preferably XMPP, but Signal at the very least. No technology is best)
with that said,
Mutual aid will be more important than ever, join and build up your local groups if you’re able, it will pay off in dividends in the coming years.
We have tremendous collective power if we just use it, and hopefully this outcome will result in us coming together and building that world in the shell of the old. Collective solidarity is our only solution left.

This election has only proven how electoralism cannot be relied upon, it’s just us now. We need to build the world we want to live in, without corporate influence.

Alan Carr’s stop smoking book is highly regarded, and encourages you to smoke as you read along, until by the end you won’t want to.
Combine that with a NAC supplement (which doesn’t do anything for withdrawals, but studies show it makes trying smoking again far more unpleasant for your brain which helps you stay off them.
When I was a kid, I played a lot of Runescape. I loved that the quests were all unique and had their own, sometimes generally well written and engaging stories, with point’n’click style puzzles, reminiscent of Sierra games. It was the most fun I’ve ever had in an mmo.
But my god is there a lot of repetitive grinding. I tried to get back into it a few years ago, but my patience for killing the same mob for 3 hours straight, or cutting and burning trees like a giant line of cocaine, simply isn’t there anymore.
I wish I could play a version of it without the grind, and just the quests.
I uh… I wouldn’t mind if they sent some of that struggle to my country, I think I could bear it.
