They dropped plastic bags where I’m from. 25c per paper bag. $2.50 for a bag for cold stuff. It does add up, then what do you do with that stuff, they can’t be bin liners
I have a kid. I love my kid. There’s also a looooooooot more sacrifice involved than I was expecting.
Not so much the money, but time and effort. Today I wanted to leave the park and go the grocery store for ONE thing before dinner. Cue negotiations to leave the park. 10mons to walk 100 yards. Issues around refusing to use the toilet before we go (young kid and car rides). Not wanting to get out of the car at the store. I could go on. Everything is just a whole fucking ordeal. Pre kid I would have got in my car, gotten the item and come home. 15mins tops. This took 1.5hrs.
I love my kid. I’m glad we had a kid. But I do not see everyone being suited to being a parent. And no one should be forced or pressured to be one.
That’s my personal opinion though.

I use 0400 000 000. I’ve had a couple of looks, but just smile and nod. I also have a spam that’s called <name>'[email protected]. I should make a spam account without my name though. I never log in. It might be dead by now.
It’s Slinky Malinki.
But at night he was wicked and fiendish and sly. Through moonlight and shadow he’d prowl and he’d pry. What was he up to? At night, to be brief Slinky Malinki turned into a THIEF!
One of my kid’s fav books. I can recite it by heart.
If you read the story, her companion had to hike out, then drive into reception to call 000. She didn’t just wait for a hour.
Imagine being in that situation, knowing that you aren’t alone and the only person with you leaves for ages while you are upside down trapped between 2 rocks. Stuff that. This lady will surely have PTSD and claustrophobia after that experience.
Edit there are conflicting articles. I’d read this one https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-10-23/woman-slipped-into-hunter-valley-rock-crevice-thanks-rescuers/104505526
Which says:
There was no phone reception at the site and when her friend realised she could not help, she returned to where the group was staying and drove to a location where they could call triple-0.
Once emergency services were on the scene, they all worked together to find the safest way to get to Ms Campbell, who had already been trapped for an hour.
Can I post a request?
When I was on TOS (the other site) there was a bunch of active parenting forums. Even down to the specific month and year your child was born. I’ve missed that community with other parents here. Does it exist? I will settle for more general if there’s activity.
Also any active finance / FIRE communities here?
I’ve tried so hard, multiple times (years apart) and just can’t read the books. I read the hobbit fine, that’s a great book, but the trilogy I just found myself skipping pages to my favourite movie parts. It just went on and on. It’s a shame really, I’d love to have read them.
I asked chat gpt to make me a business logo. It spelt the name wrong in every instance. Ok, keep that picture but replace the words with this exact spelling. Spelt it wrong a different way. Continued about 20 times before I gave up. It won’t follow explicit instructions. I can’t see it being that amazing at code
Check the ear for a tattoo. In my country they tattoo inside the ear when they get spayed
I dunno. My kid plays paw patrol games on the switch. I’m fairly sure that’s a niche audience
Your public toilets are not private. There should never be a gap around the door. The height should be above what any reasonable person would grow to, and the lower height of the door should hide the person’s feet on the toilet unless you crouch down. It’s weird and very off putting to use one
Not to mention my saved places aren’t permanent markers in the map. I’ll zoom in, still can’t see it. Search for it, oh look, there it is, right where I was zoomed in
It’s what different parts of the world call a reverse cycle, split system air conditioner.
It’s actually loud because it’s so busy there. You could even say it’s the dead center of town.
My 4 year old is gen alpha. So I’m kind of glad adults on the internet don’t relate to that generation yet
This comment thread could also apply to global warming. Glad to see we are learning from our mistakes.

Australia has this too and we don’t have as good public transport as you. You can’t even drop off nearby. Basically, everyone is on buses to car parks away (schools and other places are used) or train stations. It’s a pain in the butt, but a way of life if you want to watch a game. Tickets at these stadiums include free public transport for the afternoon, so it’s included in the price.
I have actually worked at a place that said that and it was almost legit. The owner lived interstate and would fly in take everyone to a restaurant for lunch at least monthly. When a family member of his died he gave time off for all the staff and flew an all expenses paid for any one that wanted to go to the funeral. He would regularly invite any staff (open invitation) and spouses and kids to see games with his and his family, all paid for (including alcohol). We also got flown to his state to attend a milestone birthday, all expenses paid, including spouses. Spouses were always included and kids invited where it was practical.
Annual raises without asking. Random bonuses, especially when a business deal went well.
That place was eccentric, but it actually did feel like we were being looked after.
