In my opinion that makes it a big failure. But also eye opening. There is so many here who say they will fight some nazis in the upcoming Civil War, yet can’t be pissed to do anything now.

Also I’m starting to see moderators may be big contributors to this failure on the left. The right grip and control over groups like it is some military unit is the box I’m talking about. It creates a space where everybody is in lock step or removed. But everybody that remains are all low energy, low effort people. No passion. No energy.

Stay with me for a minute. We know governments and just about any one wages warfare at all times. All except the left. Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk are out there working with Cambridge analytics. Proud boys joined with backyard militias and eventually becoming ICE. Peter Thiel funded Joe Rogan to become the mouth of MAGA. That is what we can see. When people we calling this stuff out, they were called crazy or to go touch grass. But they were right.

We have to assume that behind the scene there is equal or greater effort. You can see this in all our protests. All our efforts. All our ideals. Something is broken. There was 700 million people in the streets without any effect. That wasn’t the only time. Something is steering the left into these black holes of effort. There is an old guard that is protecting this.

We need new ideas and generators. Lemmy should be that. But instead we again get tight boxes and people yelling about car heads and issues that shouldn’t be the upfront focus.

  • But do you organize in a meaningful way. Like a way that produces some kind of result. If you were the boss of lemmygrad. You’ve taking all your life savings out and lemmygrad comes to you to say they’ve helped organize a protest or some action and as a result you have …

Growing numbers? Changed policy? Changed minds? Originated ideas keep things fresh and exciting?

  • Do you think they are?

You ever take creative people and box them. Lemmy is the box.

Lemmy isn’t the only exemple of this. I was just expecting something different given it is suppose to be left. I was wrong. It’s the worst parts from other boxes.

  • There’s a few ways I would like to take this but also I think overall I agree with you.

I don’t go into it to much but where I’m slowly adapting my views are on a few issues.

One is that I think one is that no cost should be incurred by anyone who defended themselves. I do totally get the argument that everybody deserves justice including criminals. But the stories I’ve come across tend to highlight how self defense laws are lacking in Canada and there is a lot of room between allowing all killings and some kind of castle doctrine.

The second issue for me is as I’ve aged, I can’t tell you what the hell police do. The amount of times myself or someone i know has called them, only for them to say “not much we can do, just file a report online” is too many. Yet majority of my municipal taxes go to them. So for me I am coming around to the idea that we need to pull back some of the responsibility society has given to police and reclaim it ourselves. They’re not keeping us safe. They are now refusing to act when the government tells them to. Because of this I think society does need to go back to the idea that we can’t rely on the justice system.

  • How do they get this data. Isn’t it stuff that is collected so it’s not even a full set of data. It’s just a collection that some amazing people were able to pull since Facebook locks down their api

There is a well-established “perception gap” between what we think others believe and what they actually believe. A recent poll by ReClimate found that 42 per cent of Canadians think about addressing climate change at least weekly, and yet they believe only 26 per cent of their neighbours do the same. Similarly, research has found as many as 89 per cent of people want more action on climate change — yet those 89 per cent tend to believe they’re in the minority.

So many people shit on me here in lemmy for saying this, but we have to do better. We have to nut the fuck up and deal with this. Instead of the exodus off these social media platforms, we need to be the ones drowning them the fuck out. Who cares if they’re owned by who. It’s all still works based on numbers. We need numbers to identify problems and combat the spread of this. That’s how we all felt back in the day. Defeat misinformation by engaging with it. Somewhere along the line we were all convinced to ignore it which only allowed it to spread more rapidly.

If they want to fuck around, we’re suppose to be the tech literate. We need grass roots networks and forums identifying the leaders and these small number of problem users and we need to make it as difficult as we can for them to work.

  • Hahaha hahaha haha

On lemme they broke these groups down into multiple groups consisting of 6 people each. Essentially they’re built to destroy any possible momentum before you get anywhere. There’s a ton of groups to post about memes with loose formats that build community. So if you wanted to post about beans or moths you’re golden. The actual groups to be more political or social minded are fragmented purposefully. This one here is only news articles, this one is only mêmes, I don’t think there’s even a single one for clips so that isn’t even an option. Good luck.

I think lemme very much encompasses why the left has regressed over the past 20 years. They’re even being regressed by anti vaccine advocates. It’s pretty sad. I wish we could be more socially aware about how to build these things up. But it does make sense why there isn’t much for the boycotts or leftist groups.

  • They all lulled us with meme culture. Instead what we need was to create anti ads. Any time your podcast or content creator started showing ads, we should have made all kinds of bullshit about those products.

For every ad that sucked our free time, we could have produced at least 2 anti ads. Like when a podcast advertised for zockdoc or whatever, we all needed to leave comments like “pretty sure they told my aunt she had cancer even though it was just a cough” or if it’s some drop shipper on reddit acting like they just found this cool temu star lamp then every comment should have been about how these lights burst into flames and killed your entire family.

We need to make the internet as hostile as possible to advertisers. They are reason we are tracked and why have enshittification.
