Medical interventions are fine to talk about so long as they are kept in perspective. Medication, surgery, therapy, etc are tools that can help with weight loss. They aren’t a magic bullet and losing weight requires effort and commitment with or without them. They shouldn’t be pushed on others and no one should be discouraged from using them. Respect that the journey is a personal one.

I am restarting as well. I was a pandemic weight loser, from the end of 2020 to the beginning of 2023 I went from 470 to 180 and over the last year I’ve gone back up to almost 300 and have mostly abandoned my exercise routine. I’ve been working for a couple weeks to get back to exercising and get back under 200.

Kbin has upvote, downvote, and boost. Boost comes from the microblogging side, kbin does both content aggregation like Lemmy and microblogging like Mastodon. On the content aggregation side boost counts as 2 upvotes and it functions as normal for the microblogging side. Kbin.social is the only Kbin instance I used, I expect that it works the same on other Kbin instances and on Mbin but I don’t know for sure.

Of is talking about accounts that upvote spam content. For the most part those accounts will be the spammer’s alts that will be posting spam when the current account gets banned. Blocking them while they are still being used for vote manipulation means you wouldn’t have to see their spam in the future.

That’s way too much work. I just logged into my original account on kbin.social and tapped on the activity button to see votes before that instance went down. If I want to see votes again I can set up an account on any kbin or mbin instance in less than a minute and do the same thing.

We also have a problem on lemmy that there is a subset of users who think that votes are how you curate your feed. They downvote anything that they don’t want to see instead of blocking communities that they aren’t interested in.

Using scaled sorting really helps with getting smaller communities on the front page. I still see the political and news communities but I also see communities for cities and niche hobbies.

No elector may vote for 2 people from the elector’s state. If the ticket is Harris Newsom then no elector from California can vote for that ticket. Dem’s cannot win in the electoral college without California.

I have limited agreement with your thoughts on defederation. The ability to defederate is important because there are instances that host csam and other illegal things. That content federating across all instances could put some instance owners in legal jeopardy and is undesirable even without legal considerations. Beyond filtering illegal content and large amounts of spam I prefer to curate my own experience. That’s why I chose lemm.ee. It’s a general purpose instance with a good admin that is generally well moderated. Lemm.ee doesn’t tend to cause problems for other instances so few instances have defederated from it and it basically only defederates instances that host illegal material or copious amounts of spam.

Not everyone wants that same experience though. The amount of political posts and doom posting can get overwhelming and depressing. Constantly seeing posts that challenge or attempt to invalidate parts of you identity gets exhausting. More controlled and curated instances can be a nice break from the full experience. Anytime I’ve interacted with beehaw communities it has been pleasant and much less stressful than the general lemmy community. I can understand why some users prefer to stay in that environment for all of their time on lemmy. This is ultimately recreation, users should enjoy their experience here. The same with blajah, it’s nice to sometimes see content concerning minority identities without there being the same debates in the comments. When I interact with communities there and see how they talk about things I learn and grow as a person. Those discussions wouldn’t be possible on a less controlled instance.
