  • I’ve seen Ashes of Creation situation pop up in my YouTube feed a few t8mes but never really clicked on any of it. Maybe it’s the algorithm vuy the thumbnails and titles are clickbaity so I have even less inclination.

Rant aside, but damn this is worse than I thought. I assumed it’s more concord where the game flopped or like it just got unpopular for any reason and it deflated.

Suddenly going kaput and not paying the employees and not providing refunds to players? Couldn’t start any worse for gaming on 2026 huh? knocks on wood

    But on the other hand:

spent up to $10,000 on certain backer rewards from the game.

Dang people have way too much money.

  • I stayed permanently since middle of last year thanks to piefed.social. it has a great onboarding system for anyone that might not have the gumption or will to self curate raw lemmy, mbin and now piefed outputs. A.k.a being lazy like myself.

Although for my close online friends I’m likely to suggest other piefed based instance just because tobspread the load around.

It feels like reddit back when it was smaller and before the abhorrent new UI and their aggressive algorithm. Well we all know the fediverse is practically without algorithm for good and bad.

So with this view it semi forced me to be more active in the communities I’m in. I mostly comment though rather than making posts but hey any little thing helps.

And besides I just love piefed has topics i.e. multireddit a.k.a a group feed of multiple communites, where I either I can subscribe to premade topics by the instance admin or make my own grouping of topics/communities.

I still to my chagrin dip back to reddit for some communities or topics but it’s none of the big ones. Things like psychotic people that has way too many x (bags, retro games handheld devices, headphones, fountain oens, paper notebooks, ereaders, knives, pocket trash, etc) and spending way too much money on them.

  • On top of what others have said, I’m going to recommend piefed to my friends when they want to jump in because of the built in on boarding.

From the start it’ll show you and let you pick what topics you might like to see (so sort of like multireddit that groups together similarly themed communities into one feed / group), and shows what you want to filter and partially hide and or outright block posts with certain terms. It just kickstarts someone new so quickly with what they would want to see rather than going to all view and swim through a lot of posts that might turn you off of Lemmy/mbin/piefed.

And like you said Lemmy and piefed still federates with each other so still can leverage the content already existed.

And later on you could create your own topics/grouped communities just like multireddits.

  • I’m personally waiting for the 1.0 / Deep North update to go back to playing it. But even when I stopped playing because of just getting bored with it, 2 years ago according to Steam, it’s a good game already with complete mechanics. And there are quality of life mods you can add on top of the configs you can do in the base game when setting up a world.

Even solo, as someone that usually gets bored with open world survival games, it has enough draw for me to have 1 - 2 hours gaming sessions for a month straight.
