I suspect Mint would work fine on that same desktop at this point, since it was just very new at the time and support take a bit to come in, but now its all set up how I want. Perhaps when windows next shits itself and I need to re-format anyway.

To make a long post short, windows is shitty but its setup bullshit is very straight forward and clear to deal with, linux is great when it works but its setup bullshit is byzantine as all hell. I got Linux working with only light bullshit on a laptop but just gave up entierly after 3 days of trying to get different distros at different advice working on my desktop.

World News@lemmy.world•Russian spy ship enters British waters and shines lasers at military pilotsEnglish
21·5 days agoWell the Russia report described russian money as not just accepted but ‘welcomed with open arms’ in the UK so really this is just russian ship in the waters of the country they purchased.

0·7 days agoFair enough but I think the good of humanity should be taken broadly. First of all any kind of primary production is basically the base of the pyramid for everything else, if you make art or entertainment thats anything less than 100% cynical in nature you’re contributing a tiny amount to the general wellbeing of a huge number of people. Really anyone that makes or provides anything people enjoy in some way. I’d say it includes basically everyone except the many layers of superfluous management.

4·15 days agoTheir main issue is being antisocial jerks, they don’t co-operate so they can’t share knowledge and the females die careing for the eggs (which again they might not if they worked together) so they can’t pass anything onto their young either. The jerk part is they also eat eachother sometimes.
On the upside pluto being classified as a dwarf planet is what of what got ceres promoted out of asteroid and into dwarf planet, and now its turning out to be super interesting with potential subsurface ice and possibly being the core remnant of a failed planet that was torn apart by jupiter before it could fully form.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could have a superpower, what would it be? I'll start: to be invisible.English
0·23 days ago“But if you’re invisible… how do you know where your feet are going to land exactly? How do you know how far your arm is from that book you’re trying to pick up?”
We do have a specific sense for where our body parts are relative to eachother and most people can stand or walk perfectly fine with their eyes closed. So what you’re describing as a neccesary secondary superpower is something most people already have. Could be a little clumsy at first but I imagine you’d get the hang of it pretty quickly considering how functional blind people can be.

The whole section between the takemura junkyard cutscene and waking up in your appartment doesn’t allow saving, however iirc when the game came out it was the ENTIRE heist sequence once you got to yorinobus room.

Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•Passenger trains in the United States vs Europe
0·1 month agoBut Europe actually has a slightly larger land area than the united states? aproximately 3.9 million square miles as opposed to aproximately 3.5 million square miles.
I would guess because it has awkward rules interactions so its another layer of crap to deal with.

Clover is honestly fine, its short so even if it spreads into your flowerbeds its not going to do any damage, in fact since its a nitrogen fixer it might even help, and insects like clover a lot more than grass
The one thing that bugs me about cyberpunk 2077 is the main story has an unskippable (straight) sex scene, I know they’re almost a meme in gaming culture but I’m not here for that kind of content.

Nah linux bullshit is more along the lines of, the install keeps failing and the error message tells you nothing but after a couple of hours of trying different solutions it turns out you needed to re-name one file in the setup to a slightly different name.
