Am Canadian, and absolutely not. As much as I hate murica, having the NHL be in both Canadian and murican cities is better for the game. Even Canadians that aren’t into hockey are at least kind of aware of the big games and big names, same can’t be said for murica. The more people that play the game and have a chance at making the big leagues, the better IMO.

That being said, I have a huge list of grievances with the NHL and I often see the sentiment of “best sport, worst league” among hockey fans and I agree with that completely. Refs are complete and utter trash, so is the department of player safety. The league is, IMO, quite corrupt and needs a top down reform to expel the old boys club from the top echelons of the league.

Hockey Canada itself as an organization is also extremely toxic and relies far too much on the old boys club as well. Just look at the sad state of Canadian goalies lately, we went from Price, Brodeur, Fleury, Luongo, Roy, etc to now having Binnington and Thompson as the Olympics goalies for Canada. Don’t get me wrong they aren’t bad, but it’s a far cry from the prime days of Canada pumping out extremely high quality goalies consistently. Now were average at best, and other countries, including the US (🤮) having much better goalies than us.

There’s also the whole cost thing, hockey has become a rich persons sport. You don’t stand a chance of making it to the big leagues unless you’re either a generational talent like McDavid or Price, or you spend tens of thousands over the years on professional 1 on 1 coaching. I’m 32 and I had to quit playing organized hockey at 14 cause my parents couldn’t afford to pay for the goalie gear and team fees etc and that was back in the mid 2000s. Shits only gotten worse since then.

If Canada wants to retain it’s position as the dominant hockey nation, then there are a lot of hard changes that need to be made. How many future Price’s, Crosby’s and McDavid’s have simply been priced out of the game and will never get the chance to be what they could’ve been?

I get the feeling. It’s been about a year and a half since I sunk good time into that game, but I haven’t been playing much games over that entire time tbh. The feeling of figuring things out and building a good production chain is unmatched though IMO. Few games satisfy me as much to figure out as Factorio.

With the new Space Age DLC and free 2.0 update, it’s a great time to try and get back into it! Highly recommend it.

Factorio is another good mention for its Linux support. It even has a feature that saves in the background on Linux that the windows version doesn’t have. Doesn’t matter much for the base game, but it’s really nice if you’re placing a big mod pack like Space Exploration etc.

There’s a stutter in the windows version whenever the games saves that the Linux build doesn’t have basically.

Plus it helps people like me that are terrible at saving money. I purposefully asked my work to take extra taxes off my cheques so that I can get a slightly bigger tax refund.

Probably my favorite phone I’ve owned. The battery was shit though, before my 2 year contract was up the battery would die almost immediately if it was 30% or lower and exposed to cold temperatures for even a few minutes. Living in Northern Canada with long and cold winters made the phone unusable unless I carried a charger at all times during the last 6 months of my contract.

Bring back the rear finger print scanner while we’re at it. Your screen would be unlocked and ready to use by the time you pulled it out of your pocket and it almost always worked flawlessly unlike the earlier in screen readers. My Pixel 6 felt like a 60-70% success rate on the first try.

Just upgraded to a P9 pro XL cause my P6 got spicy pillow syndrome sadly but the in screen reader finally feels almost as good as the old rear scanners. Still have to wait till it’s out of your pocket to unlock it though :/

Thanks for the help! Although it’s tempting to use that on Fallout: New Vegas or Factorio as well tbh, it’s a hard decision between all 3 games.

Congrats! I enjoy my drinks a little more than I should, it’s hard to get past that feeling of “I’m bored, a few beers would be nice”. Seriously, good for you, I’m happy you finally beat it!

Nicotine is hard because it doesn’t have such a strong effect on your life the way alcohol does and it’s (mostly) accepted as a vice that isn’t that big of a deal. No one at work is gonna judge you for having a vape/smoke break like they would if they smelled alcohol on your breath for example. It doesn’t make you hungover, or irritable, or tired because you stayed up to late etc. It simply becomes a part of your daily routine and that’s the hardest part about giving it up. I’ve been addicted to nicotine for 15 years now, 6 on smokes and 9 on vaping. Almost half my life at this point. I’ve tried 5 times to quit and I’ve never been able to make it past a week.
