Hello everyone here on the Fediverse
I’m making a free and open source platform fighter featuring FOSS mascots (like Tux, Nolok, Konqi, Wilber and others). I’m doing it on my free time, but it’s something I’d really like to get it done. It’s been brewing in my head since May/June, and that’s really when I got the basics done using SDL2 (I will use SDL3 when it gets officially released). Right now I’m working alone while also having a job in the meantime, and that’s basically to get contributions from you that I wanted to post it here. Right now, I got the 2D rendering engine done using OpenGL 2.1, and I’m looking to add OpenGL 3.3 support as well.
For those interested, the repo is already on Github at this link.
And if you don’t think you can help me with the development, feel free to also talk about it around you and tell me what you’d like for this game. I will be happy to see your suggestions (and contribution if you can ^^).
Best regards and hoping to see you here
That’s a big undertaking, good luck! I’ll definitely be trying it out once it’s playable.
Having a nice list of characters you want is cool, but for now I’d say really pick two (or even 1) and try to get them prototyped and make them feel good to play.
I think I’m gonna go, for the prototype, with one character to see how the game feeling goes, two to see how matches go, and four for team matches. So yeah, thanks for the suggestion
This is an interesting project
Is it planned to be 2d, 3d, or pixel art?
If youre looking for another mascot to add theres a programming.dev penguin as well lol. Isnt used much currently but was with our art on fediverse canvas
Definitely not 3D for sure, I don’t wanna make things complicated for me. Maybe more like classic 2D for that one
It might be interesting for me if I have a better view of that mascot and a name (if any). But so far it sounds good to have another one, if you allow me to use them of course
I love this idea and would love to help depending on what alls needed.
My only suggestion is for a feature (fighter or else) of larry the cow!
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Larry_the_cowYou can clone the project on your side and see what you can do to help. I made a (sort of) roadmap on the readme file, so feel free to pick what you can do to help ^^
