I’m not sure it’s dogma (unless I’m misinterpreting the word). At least, IMHO, it’s entitlement.
Kiwi drivers are, generally, incredibly entitled.
Simple things like ‘my journey is more important than your saftey, so I will…’
- run this amber light
- enter this intersection that I can’t exit
- drive/park over this footpath
- refuse to make room for someone else indicating a lane change
- speed
- refuse to allow a bus to proceed from a stop
To the extreme of ‘I’m so frustrated I’ll aggressively…’
- tailgate
- block you from merging
- force myself ahead of you to change lanes
- force that cyclist off the road
- drench that pedestrian with that puddle
I’ve been there when I was a youngster, I grew up but many many kiwis don’t.
I have seen all of the above, but, in general, I have to say most people don’t seem that bad. But when you have hundreds of cars around you on the road, it’s easy to find one driving like a dick.
In my experience, the things you list are a tiny majority that just happens to occur pretty frequently because of the volume of traffic.
It’s true as well for my own pet peeve, people staring down at their phone. It’s the new drunk driving.
The is a biss there of course, you don’t notice the nice drivers.
Though, it’s more that every trip will have at least one experience from that list.
I feel like the headline makes it sound like the abuse came from the driver, where in the article it sounds like the abuse is coming from people on social media when she posts about it.
Definitely what the headline heavily implied.
