TL;DR: Valve launched the Steam Frame VR headset with an Arm-based Snapdragon chip, aiming to run Half-Life: Alyx natively and streamed from PC. The new hardware features a “Frame Verified” status for optimized games, while rumors suggest two upcoming Half-Life titles supporting PC and VR cooperative play.

Half Life: Blue Shift already happened.

(I appreciate the Flintstones joke, though.)

I haven’t played through Half-Life anyway so I’ll do them all at some point. Would you recommend I play the original HL, or Black Mesa? do they work on Linux?

Hey, I would def play the Black Mesa version (of the og game, not blue shift) unless you really love that HL1 aesthetic or like things ‘untouched’ . No hate for the OG, I loved my first play-through, but I think the Black Mesa version is really good and mostly leaves things how they were but with more polish.

I agree with you on the rigidity of the gameplay, its kind of old school in that way. I was kind of jarred by it coming back after a decade and a bit. But it keeps putting down this… vibe, and keeps the gameplay constantly shifting, it payed of for me.

gotcha. Thanks. I do like time capsules ! but sometimes put off by the creaking, so to say. I did hear Black Mesa was very respectful of the original however

both have a linux native version, both are pretty expensive for how old they are lol, but hl original has the advantage of 1600+ free mods, but obviously it doesn’t look as great as black mesa
i would put both on the wishlist, and if you’re bored you probably could easily get a pirated hl copy
in both cases, the intro is long, be prepared for that

I have played some of it but got bored. I love long intros and anything narrative so that was not an issue. I think I was put off by the rigidity of the gameplay itself. But I really do want to play through it. Cheers
