Planet-heating methane is escaping from cracks in the Antarctic seabed, with new seeps being discovered at an “astonishing rate,” raising fears that future global warming predictions may have been underestimated.

      But scientists are keen to better understand them, as this super-polluting gas traps around 80 times more heat than carbon dioxide in its first 20 years in the atmosphere.

      CO2 stays around a lot longer, but methane is … much more potent at warming.

      What this is means is there is no containing this, there is only mitigation, things are going to accelerate.

      Sibera and Alaska have had their ‘perma’ frost thawing and belching up methane for 2 years now, I guess Antartica is now as well.

      It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
