Hi. Sorry for promising a HSR post but never making one. The images are too big for lemmygrad and i’m going to wait until this (chinese government sponsored tour on their dime for chinese diaspora) summer camp is done and have access to my computer to post(might be a week or two tho).

Anyways we had some students join us from a local college on the summer camp and i ended up talking for a hour or two with someone about chinese and american politics(albeit my chinese needs some work LOL) and later found out they’re a member of the youth communist party(asked him right before he left). Very interesting to hear much of the concepts i’ve read about in conversation and hearing the chinese names of such.

I did in fact ask about the great leap forward, great proletarian cultural revolution, tiananmen square, hong kong protests and taiwan independence just out of curiosity. got pretty satisfactory answers.

Anyways just wanted to share and thought you guys might want update on my china trip.

oh this is kinda rambly but my god has it changed since like even 2018, the last time i went back. i know we definitely visited the nicer parts as the government def wants to put themselves in a good light but the parks all were a part of some 社会主义(socialism) effort and they were rlly rly nice. anyways ill make a post at end of trip w pictures.

sorry for unstructured rant LOL

Hmm I don’t think i actually asked about GLF. Cultural rev he acknowledged it was a mistake probably overall, but it wasn’t like a completely bad thing but yeah that living in a time where if you said something wrong it would be very scary. Tiananmen didn’t use the term color revolution cuz we were talking in chinese but basically described it as such and like we can talk about it but the problem with talking about online is if you’re like wrong then it becomes baseless speculation and that’s not really okay. problem of national security and like being against dissident voices isn’t something unique to china either really. hong kong/taiwan were like why would they want to even have independence they’re in the grand scheme of things rather small islands and doing well under the current administration ig. i don’t remember exactly what he said but something about those lines.

so pretty much mostly in line with what i expected.

Yes probably. I asked if they were part of the communist party and they said they were part of the youth one.

I’m already on an FBI list probably, so… I’m also on such a camp. I’ve been showing my friends patriotic Chinese movies like My Motherland and I with an aiqiyi membership we bought lol. Glad to hear you had fun!

Do please post the pictures you took!

i’m not sure what you mean by the “so… i’m on such a camp” could you clarify? do you mean that you are on a similar chinese government funded camp?

oopsies if i am misreading or reading too much into it but just a bit confused
