So like what’s up with the display name for [email protected] lol? I’m hoping it’s some kind of in joke I am missing or a typo but this could very easily be read as casual racism.
The community is a copy of the subreddit r/whitepeopletwitter, which is a spin-off of r/blackpeopletwitter. It’s not meant for exclusively white-person tweets - rather, it’s just meant to be a funny name to those who are aware of r/blackpeopletwitter. The omission of “white” in the display name is probably to reflect that they accept tweets from people of any ethnicity.

imo if ur gonna change the display name then just change the comm name too. cuz this looks really iffy haha.

Holdover from the reddit community name innit? Which was made to post non-Black humorous tweets as those weren’t appropriate for black people Twitter, another reddit community. IIRC

There had been some discussion on that community to rename it, removing any mention of race to show its an inclusive community for funny tweets, but I don’t think they collectively decided on a new name. Perhaps this is part of that effort?
