I discovered that I was banned from [email protected] for being a “known detriment to the community,” despite never having posted there or even knowing about the community.

A similar situation occurred with [email protected]. This community uses a bot that bans people based on their downvote history, regardless of whether they’ve actually visited the community.

This policy from [email protected] actually caused me some trouble. After moving to a new instance, I stumbled upon this community and decided to post there. The owner then initiated a thread to have me banned across the federation for “ban evasion,” even though I was unaware of any prior ban and had only just learned of the community.

This owner has implemented a bot that automatically bans individuals, only to potentially unban them depending on their upvote/downvote ratio, without considering their actual involvement in the community.

As you might guess, his moderation log is a constant stream of bans, which is quite amusing.

While I’m not usually one for pettiness, I think I would like to return the favor to those mods and pre-ban them from my communities.

However, I’m not sure how to go about doing this. Any tips?

why would you want to have anything to do with a cult started by a chronic scam artist?

Brah, that’s the reason I DO want anything to do with them. Imagine how fucking awesome it is that some dude, pulled a stunt like that and so many people fell for it. Dude, he told them that he had gold pages written in some angelic script. They’d ask to look at it. He’d say “nah, I’m supposed to keep it secret and just translate.”

How fucking charismatic would you have to be to pull that shit off? And people believed what he said so strongly, that they FUCKING WALKED across the United States to form a new town and practically build Utah from scratch.

    I admire his balls.

Annnd by me becoming an official member (as in baptised, paperwork, and everything) I get to go to an accredited college (BYU) for $79 a credit hour. That’s cheaper than the community college in my town.

So fuck yeah, I wanna be part of that. And how did I become a member? I just nodded my head, stayed wide-eyed, and said “yes” on every question they asked. Except for the ones where they asked me if I jerked off or fucked people. I jerk off all the time, and I had just fucked the crazy out of my gf before that question session. (She HATES that I scammed them by the way. She’s not LDS (actual name Mormons prefer), but she thinks it’s a shitty thing for me to do.)

Now having said all that, the people I have met are some of the most honest, hardworking upright people I have ever known. But yeah, I totally faked my way into it for cheap college.

    No regrets.

Also, you are the first person to ever ask about it on Lemmy, so yay. Most people on Lemmy think I MUST be a conservative because they see “Mormon” in my profile. How they overlook the Satanist part or that I say “fuck” all the time is beyond me tho…

    Thanks, friend!

Haha, thanks for the interesting answer.

      I admire his balls.

I guess I see what you’re saying, and can also admire that to some extent, yet the overall picture is still of a charlatan who not only used & abused people on a personal level, but also built an ongoing entity that does so on a continuing, organisation level from what I understand. For example, the chronic curtailing of womens’ rights, including downright subjugation by higher-ranked Mormons, just to name one issue.

She HATES that I scammed them by the way.

In this era of late-stage capitalism, I can appreciate the irony.

…the people I have met are some of the most honest, hardworking upright people I have ever known.

I can imagine that being very much true at the scholarly or ‘disciple’ level, yet not so much true at higher member levels and institutional levels. Oh well, it’s still not scientology, tho.
