Because voting should have no restrictions attached to it. In other words, if you cannot afford a stamp it would restrict you. This is the basis for the voter ID laws that get struck down.
I would move these boxes to a populated place, like a firehouse. (Most definitely not a police station, lol)
the ballot should be mailed to you with a reply paid envelope and these boxes should be sent to landfill.

It does. And that’s how mail-in ballots generally work. The drop boxes are to…reduce the strain on the postal service? Idk.
When I’ve done mail-in voting the ballot came with a special envelope that was already addressed, had pre-paid postage, and I had to sign it after sealing my ballot inside.
Fortunately, you don’t need a stamp to mail your ballot in here in Washington. Still, a lot of people prefer to use the dropboxes.
