    Idk, I guess I don’t see the point of the distinction, they’re both still defending authoritarian atrocities along ideological lines.

    Unless the point is that they’re nominally communist and that somehow makes them uniquely or especially bad?

    If that’s the case then it more seems like we’re being selectively critical of communism, not authoritarianism.

      tankie is has a specific meaning, ie a communist who will enforce his will with a barrel of the tank, refering when USSR invaded its EE satellites to prevent popular liberalization.

      what makes them bad is justifying state violence.

      communism is a separate topic from the tankie imho. they are just parasites shilling foreign state actors narratives or larping because life in williamsburg is too good.
