I didn’t know of its existence, thank you! Such a spot on recommendation

No worries, it was not the most clear joke (it went over people’s head I think, seeing the downvotes).
All jokes aside though, coincidentally I just finished reading Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “Braiding Sweetgrass”, which has reinvigorated my respect for the Haudenosaunee and the Three Sister’s. Such a great read! I’m a student of ecology at the moment, and I studied Social Anthropology years ago so it was double interesting.
I agree with you, it was just a word joke
Don’t culturally appropriate please
Edit: come on, it’s just a word joke from a none native speaker. Culturally appropriate and cultural appropriation is pretty close no? I never realized until now and thought it was funny.

Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•Why did America forget they were all immigrants saying screw you to a douche "king"? Then mount a gestapo after we fought a WW to stop another douche in charge?English
0·25 days agoSpeaking of what Americans “forget”, I find it disturbing that this comment section seems to agree when it comes down to racism and white washing, but not a word is spoken about Native Americans.
Just imagine how devastating it is to see groups of immigrants fighting among eachother about equal rights. And your group, the only actual non-immigrants, get completely ignored. Not a word is spoken about them. Even by those supporting equal rights.
One person’s hero is another person’s war criminal
That’s not heather.
And I don’t get the meme. Is the joke that these plants don’t indicate anything except that there is soil?
Some of these plants indicate nothing (dandelion and clover), not even that there is soil to begin with.
But the heather and lavender indicate (very) nutrient poor soil. The soil heather grows on is very acidic and for lavender it is basic, calcium rich soil.
The stinging nettle soil is very rich in nitrogen.
So there are some easy indicators?

Memes@lemmy.ml•More than half of US families are one paycheck away from homelessness.

No offense but when was the US ever a good idea?
I mean, the land was already occupied… And now suddenly you talk about monsters? They have always been there.
Not that it is true that they are just tiny boxes… But even if it were true. That’s the difference between China and the US isn’t it?
One provides at least a “box” for everyone.
One provides a big home with a yard with a white picket fence around it for some, but leaves others living in the streets.
Do you really prefer the last one? So many people in the US would be happy with a box at this point.
Cambrian cuisine would have to exclude the garlic, tomatoes and zucchini though. No land plants yet. And no mammals so no cream.
But otherwise, totally agree! If it lived in these times I would be up for these dishes.
Had to look up hallucigenia but they sure do look like they’ll provide an interesting texture to a dish.
Wish it was still here to be part of the Christmas dinner

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ok, honestly, is cast-iron really any better than a non-stick, stainless, copper (anything else?) pan?
0·3 months agoPan make food hot. But cold food make flimsy lightweight pan less hot too. Food just sort of simmers while sometimes you want scorching.
Cast iron, or heavy bottom stainless steel pan, stays hot while food touches the pan. More energy is stored in hot heavy bottom pan. Food gets scorched and this gives more roasty toasty flavour, which is better in my opinion. If you don’t care for this, don’t.
Also, heavy bottoms spread heat more evenly so everything is cooked at same speed (not the middle of the pan faster like most non-stick pans).

Agriculture.
We could have stayed in a world where we lived in harmony with nature instead of trying to control it.
