Received my first 2 sets of programming socks. This one is black/purple, the other set is black/green. The more stripes, the better boost you get for programming, right?

I’ve been a programmer for many years but now I can finally go to the next level!

The left 2 displays are hooked up to my desktop (specs on middle display), and the laptop is standalone.

I control both using 1 keyboard and mouse, using Symless’s Synergy program (version 1). There is zero latency, as I have both connected to a network switch below my desk.

      Well, shit just works? :)

The reason I run it is because I hate gnome, and I can have a stable system without it becoming a second job. If I want to run a newer application, I can just use Nix if it’s not in the Ubuntu repositories.

A friend of mine uses NixOS daily, but it’s far too much time I would need to spend to keep it working, and security updates on NixOS are just a nightmare. It’s great for one-off program runs though.

I was just kidding, it was a misleading joke that starts off implying your socks are disgusting (they’re not) but the punchline is your operating system.

In the past I was the Arch btw meme guy, nowadays I install Mint and get the fuck on with my day. Just stick with what works, you’re right. :-)

Yeah I didn’t take it seriously, that’s why I put the smiley face. :)

I used Mint for a few years at work. At the beginning it was pretty good, but over the years it kept breaking more and more, and there was no way to upgrade to a newer version of Mint at the time. I was already using Kubuntu at home and it was solid, so now I also run Kubuntu at work.

The one thing I really miss about Mint is application vino-server. There is no good alternative for it anywhere, which is a shame.

I think I tried that, but it was nowhere near vino-server. With vino-server I could set the colorspace so low that it looked kinda bad, but the latency from home to work was unmatched. In all the other applications I tried I couldn’t set the colorspace that low (it crashed or wouldn’t start), which also meant that the latency was always too high to comfortably work from home with.

Ah, not an issue I’ve had to deal with so unfortunately no help there. Most of the time I’m accessing over ssh anyway (with occasional -X, none of those systems are using Wayland yet).

Well, they are socks that boost your programming. So it makes sense, right? (I think it’s pretty funny too that it’s marketed like that on Amazon)

Those calves tell me this programmer taps their foot when they debug. Or when they think about being a cat boy 😺

Por qué no los dos? haha

I have the big case of restless leg syndrome. I never really noticed my calves but I guess I do move my legs all day every day, so it makes sense? I cannot not move my legs while listening to music.

I think fewer stripescis better. The wave should have, in my opinion, up to 10 periods, optimally somewhere around 5-7 periods. Yours have well over 2v periods.
