    Everything is so expensive, I can hardly afford anything besides chicken and even that I eat infrequently. At least lentils are still fairly cheap.

          Agricultural Market Produce Committee is a market board set up by state governments to protect farmers from manipulation, through price transparency, providing infrastructure, workshop, etc. APMCs are a little inconvenient for common folks, but you can buy stuff in bulk through auction and save on middlemen costs.

            No, we don’t have that kinda thing in the USA. Shame, though, sounds interesting.

            We have “farmer’s markets” which can be a place where you buy direct from farmers for far below store prices, but more often than not it’s become a way for farmers or businesses that call themselves farmers to sell “artisanal” goods for far above store prices. These aren’t regulated by any government authority and while they had been a way to get quality produce for less by cutting out middlemen, they’ve been commercialized and have become another expensive way to get food. Although you can find some very high quality meats and other rarities at some that are hard to find elsewhere.
