Purely theoretical, if you inherit, let’s say, Elon Musk’s money, and you then resurrect him. Do you have to give that money back?

A bid for immortality on the back of an LLM is just… asinine. What are they thinking?! That’s like saying we can bring Shakespeare back from the dead because we created a very clever digital knot based on all his written works, and he can only speak to us from a web browser or text terminal. Do these animals really think they can just model their Reddit posts and live as a ghost in the machine after that?

I would love to hear what Kurzweil has to say about all this.

Kurzweil seems to have a very positive outlook on ai and the singularity, but completely ignores the glaring fact that its all owned and controlled by psychopath billionaires.

Plus putting shit in your body, that handles everything your braincells already do slightly faster (just faster so you can get squeezed out of your money faster) is definitely great for human development. We will become just a body remotely controlled by a corporation’s server. And imagine intelligence being paywalled.

there’s likely a mod for giving sim periods. it’s likely a matter of messing with some config files to give them permanent endomitosis periods

ITT: people supporting torture and violence against tech entrepreneurs because of post-hoc political justifications.

These comments are operating under the hypothetical premise that it is literally a human consciousness. They’re essentially describing what they want to do to people if there were no legal consequences. It’s very revealing in many ways.

It’s like the mentality of a terrorist breeding ground here. Yikes.

The world is burning and millions, billions of people are at risk. All our resources are going into techbro crap with no regard to the environment. And you’re worried about billionaires getting bullied.

      Yeah sit down.

It’s an impossible premise, and it will remain that way for even the speculatively distant future. People riffing off that is not a sign of the moral failing of lemmy, you need to calm down.

Pretty optimistic to think we’ll be able to upload and downloaded consciousness in the next 25 years.

If even possible, it’d be centuries. Chances are everyone alive today will go the same route as every other human who has ever lived.

I suppose to some extent, what is it to download consciousness? An LLM trained off someone would be like a pretty shit version of that.

I’m actually surprised no tech bro tried that.

going to die? give an AI company access to all your data, emails, conversations, photos… so when you die they can keep a llm fine tuned to sound like you and be your digital ghost people can talk to. then if they get attached, jack up prices for grieving people.

We’re probably a few decades away of fully mapping a human brain, this will likely be the next human genome like trillion dollar project. but from that to simulate it and run it? probably another couple decades

They think they’re going to live on their island fortresses with an army of slave robots, and the occasional actual slave.

They think the LLM hallucination problem will be ironed out in a couple of years.

They think longevity drug therapy is just a few years away.

I think they’re very wrong. They can throw all the money and electricity they want at these two fantasies, and they will remain fantasies. Unfortunately, we’re going to let them beat us all to hell over this… until we won’t anymore.

They know they’re in a race against an uprising, they just think they’re going to win this time.

That one is a tad more realistic than uploading human consciousness.

not unless they pivot on the basic principles of the LLM’s, instead of attempting to force a square peg into a circle hole.

What kids like i want my character to be a seditious pedofile narcissist who is trying to dismantle democracy, dismantle the education system, take away women’s rights, build a mass surveillance AI to subjugate all of humanity and ultimately end up hiding in a bunker when humanity either turns on them or they unleash some kind of evil depopulation plan. Fun. I don’t get how they don’t understand that they are the villain

They watched 80s and 90s Saturday morning cartoons and thought the bad guys were actually the good guys with good plans of bringing law and order to a chaotic world and the good guys were the bad guys because they did woke shit like have token female/non-white characters and did things like help people without demanding a 50 year contract and ownership of their children.

There is a lot of it also in a Black Mirror Episode - USS Calllister.

I think it is also the only episode with two parts.
