Oh this looks nice. I want to see how it compares to my pixel 9 pro. It will probably do better in terms of gaming and battery life compared to my pixel.

Who people actually like OnePlus? I went with a Motorola and I believe get much more value for the money.
(OnePlus is from China. I tried Xiaomi, also from China, which I have very bad experiences with. No Xiaomi ever for me).
Ik some people who enjoy OnePlus. My own plan was to get an op13 before I got a killer deal for the p9p. OP skin is pretty good in my experience compared to Xiaomi’s.
I have a Motorola phone, I’m quite happy with it.
However, there is one main issue I have with some of their models: not using Snapdragon chipsets for less powerful Mediatek (also, this reduces the likelihood of custom ROM support) The 50 Neo for instance is a nice model, but the Mediatek 7300 is less powerful than the Snapdragon 888+ used in the 30 Fusion, release a few years before: https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-875-vs-mediatek-dimensity-7300
Noted. I also have a older Motorola phone as my main driver.: Moto G73. Which is pretty cheap (under €/$200), and not best the best display. But apart from the display, its a great phone Imo.
But the newer Motorola Edge 50 Pro does come actually with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor. Granted its not the Snapdragon 8 like the flagship OnePlus comes with.
But just by comparing the specs and the price, I think you get overall better value for a Motorola. Unless you really want to have the high spec and high price of OnePlus I suppose.

161 mm. As much as 155mm being compact is debatable, personally anything above 160 is too big for me.
Motorola is also Chinese lmfao.
But I just spent a couple hours yesterday upgrading my Onplue 5t and 6t to Android 15 w/ LineageOS, so if nothing else I love that they are open enough with their drivers and such that the open source community can build for their phones.
I’ve been using Samsung mainly for the past few years and I kinda miss being able to root and ROM.
No custom ROM support == no buy from me

TBF, the device isn’t out yet, so I’d think making a custom ROM would be premature. Your other comment makes me think twice about buying Oneplus again, though.
I got a lot of mileage out of my OP6, so perhaps the last model to receive a custom ROM would serve me fine for a couple of years.

The last 3 generations of OnePlus phones do not have custom ROM support AFAIK. They either refuse to unlock the bootloader or do not provide the tool to unbrick the phone anymore, making testing custom ROMs impossible

OP12 can run custom ROM. I’ve tried YAAP, but there was a couple oddities, so back on stock. ETA bootloader unlock was as simple as fastboot commands.
I know that LineageOS devs were complaining about OP not giving them the unbrick tool anymore, without which they can’t test their ROM. I don’t know if anything has changed since then

I’m tired of them quoting phone sizes by screen size as opposed to… well… the size of the phone.
Most people will hear 6.3" and think well my old phone was 4.3", clearly this is going to be vastly larger, completely forgetting that bezels these days are practically non-existent.

Have a look at this 2012 article and giggle together with me about the sizes of those so-called phablets.
I mean the galaxy note (2011) is still larger than plenty of phones now, so it doesn’t seem absurd.

I’m accounting for phones that can actually be purchased new, or second hand from up to two years ago. The Pixel 5 was released in 2020.
Pixel 8a, Galaxy S25, iPhone 16 and 16e are all smaller.

The Samsung S4 Mini was compact compared to the S4, by design.
I think you’re mixing screen size and phone size. the size of the screen is itself big but the phone’s print is small.
The Pixel 8a and the Xiaomi 15 both are 152 mm high, the Xiaomi has 1 6.36 inch screen, the Pixel 6.1 inch screen

Screen size has a direct effect on one handed use. Bezels dont matter as much as people make them out to. Regardless, not being too much bigger than other recent phones does not make it compact
I’d rather have bezels - they make holding a phone easier.
