Since the beginning of 2025, more than 160 people have died from poisoning after drinking bootleg alcohol in Turkey. How did going out for a drink become so dangerous?

Turkish citizen here, biggest thing to blame here is the government. If you put %70 tax on alcohol, people who like alcohol won’t stop consuming it. They will try to find it cheaper which leads to these incidents.
This has been a problem in several Asian countries lately as well.
